The most important challenge that companies will face in the coming years will be that of the reduction of their operating costs through energy saving and successful energy management.
The first step for a successful energy management, starts with the Energy Review and the energy classification of the building facility in a specific category, according to the legislation. The Energy Review aims to identify those areas of the facility that present the highest energy consumption.
Such points may involve either the installed electromechanical equipment or the building shell. Thus, a thorough study of the energy performance of the building facility is conducted and technical solutions are proposed, aiming to prevent high energy costs and at the same time make savings.
Along with the Energy Review, an Energy Inspection takes place, that follows specific procedures in accordance with the Legislation and leads to the Energy Performance Certificate.
Energy Performance Certificate
The Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is recognized by the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change (YPEKA). It is a certificate that depicts and classifies the energy performance of a building facility on a scale from A to H, where category A represents the buildings with the highest energy performance (i. e. the lowest possible consumption).
The EPC also indicates the building’s estimated annual energy consumption, as well as the annual CO2 emissions. It is accompanied by recommendations for improving the energy performance, which may involve structural interventions in the building’s external shell (insulation, window frames, etc.), replacement of the electrical and mechanical equipment of the facility or the proposal for the installation of renewable energy sources (RES).
The certificate is valid for 10 years from the date of issue, is mandatory by law for all large companies (expected to be expanded to all companies) and is carried out by certified energy inspectors.
